GHAC Celebrates Progress in Little Paradise and Winchelsea Mine Projects
Groote Holdings Aboriginal Corporation (GHAC) is pleased to announce significant progress made in the Little Paradise and Winchelsea Mine projects during the year 2023. This progress marks a step forward in GHAC’s commitment to sustainable development and economic prosperity for the local community.
Little Paradise Development:
The Little Paradise project comprises eight separate leases aimed at providing sustainable opportunities and income for the local community after Gemco’s operations cease in seven years. In 2023, notable progress was achieved across several fronts:
Lease 1 – Basecamp: Construction commenced in early 2023 and was completed by November. The Basecamp offices and accommodation facilities are now operational, providing essential infrastructure for ongoing projects.
Lease 2 – Aquaculture: The Research facility construction progressed, with a focus on species testing and R&D. Earthworks for the first large-scale pond began towards the end of the year, setting the stage for further developments in 2024.
Lease 3 – Timber Mill: Earthworks for the timber mill were completed by the end of the year, with plans to install operational facilities in early 2024.
Lease 5 – Solar Farm: Technical discussions and modelling were conducted throughout 2023, with commercial discussions expected to frame the project in early 2024.
Lease 6 – Vehicle Centre: Project activities resumed towards the end of 2023, with a focus on design progress in 2024. A funding application was submitted in early 2024 to support further developments.
Lease 7 – LDM Housing Development: Despite challenges, preparations for tendering civil works and housing construction are underway for early 2024.
Pole 7A – GHAC Centre: Construction commenced in August and is on track for completion in early 2024, providing essential community infrastructure.
Winchelsea Mine Progress:
Winchelsea Mine achieved significant milestones in 2023, including the delivery of the Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) in September, indicating the viability of manganese mining. Further progress includes:
Discussions and Reviews: Discussions with Gemco and financiers commenced, exploring various operational and financial options. A data room was opened for interested partners, facilitating engagement with potential stakeholders.
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS): The EIS was resubmitted in December, incorporating necessary variations and additional information. Further discussions with Gemco will determine operational involvement and investment from GHAC in 2024.
Looking Ahead to 2024:
GHAC anticipates another productive year in 2024, with plans including:
Completion of the first full-scale pond for Aquaculture. Operationalisation of the timber mulching facility. Tendering for the Solar Power and battery projects. Commencement of construction on the housing estate. Infrastructure upgrades along Bartalumba and Little Paradise roads.
Decision-making on Winchelsea partners and operational/financial options.
